BMPA Community Art Event with Derrick Coles

Time: 2-4 p.m.
Location: Bexley Public Library auditorium
Event Description: Join local artist, Derrick Coles, as he leads this community event for all ages at the Bexley Library! He will guide you through the creative process of creating a large community collage. Participants will craft small images reflecting the theme ‘Unity in Diversity,’ which Derrick will assemble into a mosaic artwork. This mosaic will symbolize how individual diversity contributes to a unified community, highlighting the endless possibilities that unity can create.
Artist Bio:
Derrick L. Coles Jr. is a Northland High School graduate from the class of 1994. He received a Commercial Arts certificate from Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education High School during his academic career. Derrick pursued further studies at the University of Cincinnati and Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) and is a graduate of Wilberforce University.
In 2016-2017, Derrick returned to his passion for art, and within a year, his talent started to gain recognition. He was delighted to secure his first art exhibition at the Martin De Porres Center at Ohio Dominican University in 2018. Derrick has been featured as a prominent artist in the 2019 and 2021 Bexley Women’s Club House & Garden Tour and in Bexley Living Magazine. Additionally in 2022, he was privileged to participate in the “Aminah Is My Art Teacher” project. Derrick is proud to have donated his artwork to the BMPA Art Auction, which offers proceeds for scholarships for Bexley High School seniors who are minority students.
Supplies will be provided. Registration is recommended, but not required.
